Leon Richardson, 66, of Washington Park, Illinois, was fatally shot on August 11, 2024, around 11:57 AM in the 5000 block of North Park Drive near Good Samaritan Ministries of the Metro East. St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. pronounced Richardson dead at the scene after witnesses reported hearing three gunshots.

The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation joined the local police investigation. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed potential witnesses to reconstruct the moments before and after the shooting. Vincent E. Brown, 61, of Belleville, Illinois, was arrested after a traffic stop in Madison by the Illinois State Police and charged with first-degree murder; he is being held at the St. Clair County Jail.
