Stephen Monigan, 68, was found dead in his Cahokia Heights home in the 2000 block of Maple Tree Lane on July 10, 2024. The death was from apparent gunshot wounds; officers were dispatched after a report at about 7:25 a.m., and Monigan was pronounced dead at about 8:30 a.m. by St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

The Cahokia Heights Police Department asked the Major Case Squad to take over the investigation. The inquiry was led by Lt. Patrick Feldhake of the O’Fallon Police Department with assistance from Sgt. Andrew Johnson of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Det. Shawn O’Dell of the Belleville Police Department. Vermonica L. Turley, 56, a known acquaintance of Monigan, was charged with 1st Degree Murder in connection with his death.

Monigan’s death was the eighth homicide in Cahokia Heights in 2024, a city of about 17,000 residents. If anyone knew Stephen or has information about his death, please share what is known with investigators.
