On June 18, 2024, Sebastian Rodriguez, 23, was shot and killed at Licores El Potrillo, a liquor store on the 2100 block of South Cicero Avenue in Cicero, Illinois. The shooting occurred about 1:15 p.m. after Rodriguez followed two males who had taken a bottle from the store; one of the suspects fired a single shot that struck Rodriguez in the head. He was treated at the scene and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he died.
Investigators from the Cicero Police Department and the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force identified two suspects and took them into custody. Anthony J. Johnson Jr., 35, and Randell D. Brown, 31, both of Chicago, were arrested and charged with First Degree Murder; Johnson Jr. was stopped after a brief vehicle pursuit at 95th and Halsted, and Brown was arrested at a Chicago residence. The Cook County State’s Attorney approved charges. Rodriguez was described by coworkers and friends as warm, family devoted, and the oldest of seven siblings; his family started a GoFundMe for funeral costs.
If anyone witnessed the June 18 incident at the store or has additional information about the shooting, please share what is known.
