Kaden W. Topal, an 18-year-old from Edwardsville, Illinois, died on May 16, 2024, after being shot during a home invasion and robbery at an apartment in the 100 block of Thompson Street in Wood River. Wood River police Chief Brad Wells said Topal had taken part in the invasion and robbery alongside 20-year-old August C. Archambault of Glen Carbon, who allegedly organized the incident. The two stole a firearm from the apartment’s resident. When the resident tried to retrieve the gun a struggle occurred between the resident and Topal; the weapon discharged and struck Topal, who died at the scene. Archambault was later charged with home invasion, aggravated robbery, and residential burglary in connection with the events that led to Topal’s death. Funeral services were arranged by Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville.
Are there details about the timeline or the apartment’s occupants that anyone in the area can add?
