Jonalberto Guadalupe Sanchez, 24, of Rantoul, Illinois, died of a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at 6:21 PM on April 14, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Room in Urbana. The shooting occurred near the intersection of 3200 North and 1800 East in Ludlow Township during a meeting between Sanchez and Argenis Rincon, 32, also of Rantoul, that stemmed from a dispute over a prior relationship. Sanchez was shot in the upper torso and later succumbed to his injury.

The Champaign County Coroner’s Office, the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the Rantoul Police Department are investigating. An autopsy was scheduled for April 16, 2024, and an inquest may be held later.
