On March 18, 2024, 23-year-old Jihad Mahan of unincorporated Willowbrook, Illinois, was found unresponsive in the front yard of a home on the 16W600 block of Mockingbird Lane and later pronounced dead at Hinsdale Hospital. DuPage County deputies say he was fatally shot; investigators allege his twin sister, 23-year-old Jamilah M. Mahan, retrieved a Glock 42 .380-caliber handgun from his bedroom and shot him in the back.
After the shooting, a physical struggle occurred between Jamilah and their mother, who reportedly took the gun and went outside. Jamilah was later found on top of the mother holding a knife; the mother was unconscious and had been strangled. Jamilah Mahan was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated domestic battery, denied pre-trial release, and was being held at the DuPage County correctional facility with a court date set for April 1, 2024.
Records cited in the case note prior mental-health concerns and past domestic incidents involving Jamilah, including a 2022 misdemeanor domestic-battery charge that was dropped and an earlier involuntary psychiatric evaluation and guardianship petition by the mother. Anyone with information about the case or who knew Jihad is asked to come forward.
