On March 16, 2024, 4-year-old Terrell Marshawn Miller was fatally shot in an apartment in the 900 block of North Charles in Macomb, Illinois, during an active domestic violence call. Officers responding to multiple 911 calls found blood in the common area and screams coming from inside. After announcing their presence and forcibly entering, they found Terrell’s mother, 36-year-old Keianna Miller, with numerous visible injuries and bleeding from more than 20 stab wounds; she was removed and given medical attention.

A 57-year-old man, identified as Anthony T. George, was armed with a knife and refused repeated commands to drop it. He briefly left officers’ view and then returned holding Terrell with a knife at the child’s throat and another at his waist. A Macomb officer fired one round from a duty weapon that struck both George and Terrell, killing them. The Illinois State Police later conducted an investigation; the Macomb Police Department opened an internal review of the use of deadly force, and the family has said they intend to pursue civil remedies.

A candlelight vigil for Terrell was held in Macomb on March 21, 2024. What information can anyone offer about Terrell’s last days or the events at that apartment that evening?
