Jonnie Angel Klein, a 31-year-old single mother, was shot and killed while using the ATM at a Chase Bank in Worth, Illinois, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, around 3 p.m. After being wounded she managed to drive across 111th Street to a different bank branch, where she was found gravely injured and later pronounced dead. Police arrived within 78 seconds of the 911 call.
Two people from Harvey, Illinois — 22-year-old Tamara Jailynn Johnson and 23-year-old Jason Jerry Joseph Johnson — were taken into custody by Worth police on November 5 and charged with first-degree murder. They are alleged to be connected to several other armed robberies in the area and in northwest Indiana; multiple firearms were recovered, including the gun said to have been used in Klein’s killing.
Klein worked as a counter worker at a Dunkin Donuts near 111th Street and Kedzie. She was the mother of a 14-year-old son, Jeremy, and a 10-year-old daughter, McKayla, and cared for her mother, who was battling cancer. A GoFundMe set up to help the family had raised over $62,000 and funeral services were held November 11 at Thompson-Kuenster Funeral Home in Oak Lawn. Does anyone have information about Klein’s life, the robbery, or the events at the bank that afternoon?
