Just after dawn on August 12, 2023, 29-year-old Jesus Alain Galvan left the Atlantis Gentlemen’s Club in Ford Heights, Illinois, driving a white pickup with three companions. Investigators say a passenger in Galvan’s truck fired multiple rounds from a window, striking a parked vehicle belonging to the club’s on-duty security guard, 52-year-old Michael Long. An employee told Galvan to leave and he pulled away; moments later shots followed the truck down East Lincoln Highway. One bullet struck Galvan, his vehicle crashed nearby, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner listed a gunshot wound to the head as the cause of death.
Within days authorities charged Michael Long with first-degree murder and held him without bail; a passenger from Galvan’s truck, 31-year-old Samuel Martinez, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm in connection with the initial shots that hit the parked car. Court proceedings were underway after the shooting; the sequence from the truck’s initial gunfire to the guard’s volley at the fleeing vehicle is central to determining responsibility. If anyone has information about the early-morning events outside the nightclub or the moments on East Lincoln Highway, please come forward.
