On August 3, 2023, Cameron Webster Sr., 53, was shot and killed outside the QuikTrip at 17355 Torrence Avenue in Lansing, Illinois. The shooting occurred just before 4:40 a.m. while Webster had stopped for gas on his regular morning route to work as a security guard in Chicago. Police say a group of suspects attempted to rob and carjack him; Webster tried to resist and was shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lansing Police Department and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating. The station had multiple security cameras and the area is monitored by block cameras and routine patrols, which authorities hope will help identify the suspects. Family members described Webster as a dedicated father of three who left home around 4 a.m. for work. No public announcement of arrests or suspect identifications has been released. If anyone has information, the Lansing Police Department asks that tips be called in to 708-895-7150.
