Reginald Meadows, 31, was fatally shot during a Juneteenth celebration held in a parking lot at Route 83 and Honeysuckle Rose Lane in unincorporated Willowbrook Township in the early hours of Sunday, June 18, 2023. The event drew about 200 people and gunfire erupted around 12:30 a.m., killing Meadows with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and injuring 22 others. Witnesses described chaotic scenes, one saying roughly 80 shots were fired and people were trampled while fleeing.

Meadows is remembered as a devoted fiancé and the sole provider for his 11-year-old son RJ and 13-year-old daughter Gabby. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner confirmed the shot to the abdomen and investigators were processing the scene and interviewing witnesses; no arrests had been announced and suspects remained unidentified. The family has sued the property owner alleging inadequate security, and a GoFundMe has been set up to support the children. Federal officials have offered assistance and the White House condemned the violence.
