On June 20, 2024, police in South Bend, Indiana, responded to reports of shots fired on Parry Street and found 28-year-old Jasmine Swanson with a gunshot wound; she was later pronounced dead. Two other women were injured in the same shooting and survived. Jasmine was a mother to her son Jayceon Austin and worked at Amazon. Family and friends remembered her for her infectious smile, love of dancing and music, and the large, close family that included parents Donald T. Swanson and Crystal L. Jefferies.
Authorities arrested 22-year-old Rya Barnes the same day and charged Barnes with one count of murder, two counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon, and two counts of criminal recklessness. Prosecutors say the shooting grew out of an argument that originated on social media. A funeral service for Jasmine was held on June 28, 2024.
Did anyone in the area know Jasmine, her routine, or have information about events on Parry Street the morning of June 20, 2024?
