Jerry Dewayne Hale, 34, was shot and killed in the early hours of New Year’s Day 2024 in the 400 block of East Riverside Drive in Evansville, Indiana. Known as Baby Jerry, he was a devoted father to four children — Jeraden, Janyila, Jerream, and Jassiah Hale — and worked with young people at the Youth Care Center in Evansville. Family described him as loving, compassionate, and a pillar of strength.

Evansville police investigated the killing as a homicide and identified a suspect. With U.S. Marshals’ assistance, 29-year-old Christopher Boyd Jr. was arrested in Georgia and charged in connection with the shooting. Another person, Nykeia Baker, was arrested on a charge of assisting a criminal. Court proceedings were later held and concluded in December 2024.
