On a February evening in 2023, 36-year-old Shawn Wildt was shot and found dead inside a residence on Cypress Dale Road in Evansville, Indiana. His brother, 42-year-old Chad Wildt, was also shot during the same confrontation; Chad was found in the roadway with a gunshot wound to the face, survived but was critically injured.
Investigators say the brothers were confronted by intruders at the property they owned. An 18-year-old, Austin Ousley, fled the scene and was later found behind a local business with a self-inflicted head wound; a 17-year-old was also taken into custody in connection with the incident. Ousley was hospitalized and later booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail in April 2023 to face charges related to the shootings.
Ousley was charged with murder, attempted murder, burglary, and criminal trespass. His trial began in March 2024; after hearing testimony and reviewing evidence including 911 calls and body-camera footage, the jury convicted him of reckless homicide in Shawn Wildt’s death and attempted murder for Chad Wildt’s shooting, acquitting him of criminal trespass and burglary. In August 2024 he was sentenced to 60 years in prison.
If anyone knew Shawn or Chad, or has information about the events on Cypress Dale Road that night, please share what you know.
