On the evening of January 11, 2023, Richard Donnell Hamilton, 43, was fatally shot while riding as a passenger in a white van that exited Interstate 65 onto County Line Road in Greenwood, Indiana. First responders arrived around 6:30 p.m. and found Hamilton unresponsive in the passenger seat with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver was not physically harmed.

Investigators say what began as an apparent road rage incident escalated when shots were fired from another vehicle. Indiana State Police identified a suspect car described as a silver or gray sedan with dark tinted windows, possibly a Mazda, and asked the public for dash-cam footage or tips. No arrests have been announced.

Hamilton, known as Coach Nell, founded and coached the Indy Steelers youth football program for more than a decade, serving as a mentor to many at-risk youth. Does anyone in the Greenwood or Indianapolis area have information or footage that could help investigators?
