On the afternoon of January 31, 2023, a shooting at the Dollar Tree at 999 North Montello Street in Brockton, Massachusetts, left 38-year-old Dongbin Pyon dead. Pyon, an Asian man from East Boston, and another male employee were struck after a former employee, identified as Luis Soto, allegedly entered the store and opened fire. Both victims were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital; Pyon later died of his injuries. His wife, Donna Mansora, described him as a perfect husband who had found joy and purpose in his work.
Investigators say the attack was not random. Soto, 32 at the time, fled the scene; his vehicle was later found abandoned in Newton. An arrest warrant was issued charging him with murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and unlawful carrying of a firearm. Authorities warned he should be considered armed and dangerous and the U.S. Marshals Service offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
If anyone has information about that day, the suspect’s whereabouts, or knew Dongbin, please come forward to assist the ongoing investigation.
