On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 4, 2024, officers and emergency responders were sent to the 500 block of Newtown Pike in Lexington, Kentucky, after a report of a shooting. They found 48-year-old Black man Antonio Taylor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center but died during emergency surgery; his death was recorded as Lexington’s sixth homicide of the year. Authorities described the shooting as targeted.
A Lexington Police detective testified that witnesses saw a person arrive in a silver Buick Century. The driver, wearing a mask, a black baseball cap, and all-black clothing, argued with Taylor and then fired several shots. Investigators used traffic camera footage and data from Flock license plate readers to identify the vehicle and trace it across state lines to Ohio.
Federal and local fugitive teams in Ohio arrested 48-year-old Shawnika Gill in Hamilton County and she was charged with Taylor’s murder. Gill was extradited to Fayette County, arraigned in June, and in July a judge denied a bond reduction, calling her a substantial danger to the community; the murder charge was sent to a grand jury. If anyone has information about Antonio Taylor, his activities that afternoon, or the silver Buick Century, please come forward.
