A household on Warren Street in Covington, Kentucky, turned fatal on the afternoon of January 22, 2024. Police were called around 12:40 p.m. after a loud gunshot; 2-year-old Khalil Adams was found with a severe chest wound and was rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators say Khalil’s 3-year-old brother found a loaded handgun inside the apartment and fired the shot. The toddler reportedly indicated himself as the shooter and pointed to the location of the family’s firearm. Parents Tashaun Adams, 21, and Selena Farrell, 23, later acknowledged keeping a loaded handgun for protection; the weapon was recovered discarded in a barbecue grill on the stove. Farrell reportedly fled before officers arrived and was later found hiding in a Florence hotel room with Tashaun and 20-year-old Jeremiah Thomas.
On January 25, both parents were arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter for allegedly failing to secure the firearm. Farrell faces additional counts including possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and abandonment of a minor; Thomas was charged with hindering apprehension. Is there anyone who knew this family or who has information about the household’s circumstances that day?
