On the evening of December 12, 2023, Robert Douglas Marshall, 33, was shot inside the Dairy Mart at 1116 Winburn Drive in Lexington, Kentucky. Dispatchers received reports of a shooting shortly after 7:25 p.m.; first responders found Marshall with a gunshot wound and transported him to the University of Kentucky hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:59 p.m. The Fayette County Coroner attributed his death to a single gunshot wound.
Officers say a suspect remained at the store and was taken into custody when they arrived; police later said all parties involved had been identified but did not release details about what led to the shooting. Family members remembered Marshall as a devoted son, brother and father with ties to Kentucky and Michigan, and a fundraising page was set up to bring his body home to Michigan for burial.
In January 2024 the Lexington Police Department announced the shooting was being investigated as justifiable self-defense, changing the public characterization of the case and putting the self-defense claim under legal review. Does anyone have information about what happened at the Dairy Mart that night or knew Robert Marshall?
