Bryce Stewart, 16, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 13, 2023, at a residence on Squiresville Road in Owenton, Kentucky. Kentucky State Police troopers arrived after a call about a shooting at about 1:21 a.m.; Stewart had sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Owen County Coroner.

Court documents say 40-year-old Timothy Stone of Owenton told police he had consumed several beers and a shot of bourbon before the incident and that he was showing his rifle to Stewart when the rifle was pointed at the teenager, producing the fatal shot. Stone was arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Stewart was a junior at Carroll County High School, active on the football team and serving as vice-president of the Future Farmers of America chapter.
