On the evening of April 20, 2023, shots were fired in the 400 block of Chestnut Street in Lexington, Kentucky, leaving two people fatally wounded. Officers arriving just before 10 p.m. found 43-year-old Timonte D. Harris and 32-year-old Lakeisha Hill with gunshot injuries. Harris was pronounced dead at the scene; Hill was taken to a hospital with life-threatening wounds and later died.
Police initially arrested 37-year-old Corry Jackson after a witness identified him as the shooter; investigators theorized Harris had shot Hill and Jackson had then shot Harris. Jackson faced murder, assault, and weapons charges that were later reduced at a preliminary hearing to manslaughter. At trial another man, 35-year-old Courtney Wrenn, took the witness stand and testified that Harris had shot both him and Hill, and that Wrenn then fired back, killing Harris. Forensic testimony linked DNA on the rifle trigger to Wrenn and found his blood inside the home. The jury acquitted Jackson after less than an hour of deliberation.
