Justin Cooke, 43, was shot and killed on the evening of Friday, March 17, 2023, in the parking lot of a Marathon gas station at North Martin Luther King Boulevard and Third Street in Lexington, Kentucky. Police responded to multiple calls around 7:30 p.m. and found Cooke with life-threatening injuries; he was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and later pronounced dead. A woman who had been in the vehicle with Cooke sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was treated at a hospital.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed a man in ripped jeans, a black top, and black slide sandals approach Cooke’s vehicle and fire multiple shots before fleeing on foot. An ankle monitor placed the same man at the gas station at the time, and the suspect’s girlfriend provided a statement matching the clothing seen on the footage. The investigation led to an arrest four days later; initial charges included murder and second-degree assault. Cooke was born in Decatur, Georgia, on July 6, 1979, and is survived by multiple children, including a 7-year-old daughter.

If anyone was at the Marathon that night or has information about the shooting, please share what was seen or heard.
