On the evening of October 9, 2024, Jason Alexander Sumner, 29, was found fatally wounded near the porch of a residence in the 26000 block of East Jackson Street in Lacombe, Louisiana. Deputies from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a possible shooting shortly before 10 p.m.; Sumner suffered an apparent gunshot wound and died at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
Sumner was a native of Georgia who had been living in Louisiana as a chef and was the father of five children. The St. Tammany Parish Major Crimes Unit investigated, and detectives arrested 17-year-old Caleb Gasery of Lacombe on October 15, 2024; he was booked on one count of second-degree murder. A St. Tammany Parish grand jury later indicted Caleb Gasery for second-degree murder on January 30, 2025.
If anyone has information about Jason Sumner, his movements that night, or the events around East Jackson Street on October 9, please come forward.
