On the evening of October 7, 2024, 15-year-old Jvoine D. Elow Jr. was found shot to death behind an apartment complex on Bundy Road in the West Lake Forest neighborhood of New Orleans East. A student at Martin Luther King Jr. High School, he had been visiting a friend at the complex before the fatal shooting. Witnesses suggested a fight may have occurred prior to the shooting.

Family described Jvoine as a joy-bringer with a sense of humor who was trying to improve his grades and turn his life around after earlier associations with the wrong crowd. His grandparents, who had custody of him for most of his life, and the wider community publicly pleaded for no retaliation following the killing.

The New Orleans Police Department opened an investigation into the homicide. If anyone has information about what happened that night or knew Jvoine, please come forward.
