Eric Steven Vandersypen was 35 when he was shot on Polk Street in Alexandria, Louisiana, on August 9, 2024. He was taken to a local hospital but died of his gunshot wound three days later on August 12, 2024.

Family remembered Vandersypen as a devoted husband to his wife Kendra and a father to three daughters, someone described as fiercely loyal with a mischievous smile and a sharp intelligence. His favorite song was Mo City Don by Z-Ro.

Police arrested a 37-year-old man, Zachary Bonier, on charges of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon; after Vandersypen’s death, authorities upgraded the case to second-degree murder. Memorial services were held August 22, 2024.
