On the late afternoon of August 8, 2024, 54-year-old Sherron Delafose was found unresponsive on the floor of her Lake Charles, Louisiana apartment on Michael Debakey Drive. Police who responded around 5:35 p.m. determined she was the victim of a homicide.

Within hours investigators arrested Jesse Lee First, who was known to Delafose and is the son of her fiancé. First was charged with second-degree murder and held on bond set at $1 million. Sgt. Dustin Fontenot of the Lake Charles Police Department is leading the inquiry; authorities have asked anyone with information to come forward.

Family members describe Delafose as a loving, kind woman who financially supported her college-age daughter and a granddaughter with medical needs. Her sister has started a fund to help cover funeral and burial expenses and to support the daughter and granddaughter during this time.
