Austin Johnson, an 18-year-old freshman business administration major at Louisiana Tech University from Bossier City, was fatally shot in Ruston, Louisiana, in the early hours of Friday, February 2, 2024. He was in a vehicle with friends at the drive-thru of a Raising Cane’s when occupants reportedly played with toy guns.
Johnson was taken first to Northern Louisiana Medical Center and then airlifted to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, where he later died of his injuries. The Ruston Police Department investigated and determined the shooting to be accidental. Embry was arrested and charged with negligent homicide and booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center with bond set at $300,000; authorities said he was not a student at Louisiana Tech. The investigation remains ongoing.
If anyone was at the Raising Cane’s that night or has information about what happened in the car, please come forward.
