Theme John Ledee, 72, a retired deputy who served with the Opelousas Police Department and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, was killed on November 6, 2023, after an argument at a residence on Lee Garland Drive in Opelousas. Ledee was staying with his son when the ex-boyfriend of the son’s girlfriend, identified as Thomas Breckney, arrived; reports say Breckney had been stalking the young woman. A verbal confrontation escalated and both men drew firearms.
In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Ledee was struck in the chest and died at the scene after deputies found him unresponsive. Breckney sustained a gunshot wound to the head and later drove himself to a local hospital, where he was admitted in critical but stable condition. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into the shooting.
Ledee is remembered for roughly two decades of service and for mentoring younger officers. Does anyone who knew Ledee or was in the area that day have information that could help clarify the sequence of events?
