Joshua Jermaine Stewart, 35, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, was shot during a roadside dispute on the evening of August 30, 2023, at Juban Road and Brown Road. The argument involved occupants of two vehicles; Stewart exited his car and approached a pickup driven by a man in his early twenties. As Stewart allegedly pulled on the truck’s door handle, the driver fired a handgun, striking him three times.

Deputies from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office found both men at the scene and Stewart was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He died the following day. The shooter was detained for questioning; after investigating, the Sheriff’s Office concluded the shooting was an act of self-defense and did not file criminal charges.
