Adlai Kenneth Lewis Sr., 66, known as Boo-By, was fatally shot the evening of Sunday, August 6, 2023, at a convenience store in New Iberia, Louisiana. He was taken to Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center and died of his injuries the next day, Monday, August 7, 2023. Lewis was a longtime New Iberia resident, survived by his wife, Rosalind Mitchell Lewis, and three sons, and remembered in the community in part because his nephew Marlon Lewis served as District 2 Councilman.

The New Iberia Police Department identified and arrested DeAndre Bernard in connection with the shooting. Bernard was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of an unidentifiable firearm.
