Daniel Everett DeBernardi, 39, was shot in the torso during an altercation at a residence on Rushing Road in Denham Springs on the evening of May 20, 2023. The shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m.; he was taken to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries the next day.

The Denham Springs Police Department opened a homicide investigation. A suspect, 32-year-old Chase Nicholas Whalen of Denham Springs, was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center and charged with one count of manslaughter in connection with DeBernardi’s death.
