Jose DeLeon, 43, was found dead on May 6, 2009, in a wooded area off County Road 48 in Okahumpka, Florida. Originally from Guatemala, he had been in the United States only a few months and was known to travel through several Florida cities, including Lake County. He had not been seen for several days before his body was discovered.
When located, Jose was wearing blue jeans with a brown belt, brown steel-toe work boots, and a collared shirt patterned with fish and fishing lures. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office classifies his death as a homicide and the investigation remains an open cold case; no arrests have been announced and detectives are seeking information about who might be responsible.
Anyone with information about Jose’s movements in the days before May 6, 2009, or who recognizes the clothing description is asked to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office or submit an anonymous tip to Crimeline.
