On October 13, 2024, deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunshots at a home on 55 Young Road in Tijeras, New Mexico. When officers arrived they found 24-year-old Adlai Mestre covered in blood, in possession of a gun and ammunition, and reportedly confessing to killing his parents Raymundo and Bertha Mestre and his 17-year-old sister Breille Gracie Mestre. The three victims’ bodies were located in a ravine about 50 yards from the family residence. The family dog was found inside the home, shot multiple times.
Adlai Mestre was arrested and charged with multiple counts, including three open counts of first-degree murder, several counts of tampering with evidence, extreme cruelty to animals, escape from the custody of a peace officer and criminal damage to property. Authorities said Mestre made statements about seismic waves and firing at cellular towers with thermal imaging capabilities, which deputies described as delusional. Autopsy results were pending from the Office of the Medical Investigator.
Breille had been a long-time patient at Carrie Tingley Hospital and took part in adaptive cycling programs; friends and family described her as kind and compassionate. The Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation created the Breille Mestre Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide adaptive equipment for other children. The case has prompted discussion locally about mental health services and New Mexico’s red flag law. If anyone knew Breille or has information about what happened that day, please share what is known.
