On New Year’s Day 2023, a shooting in Clovis, New Mexico, left 28-year-old Oscar Fabian Trujillo mortally wounded. Trujillo, born June 5, 1994, worked as a self-employed auto mechanic and was described as someone who enjoyed fishing and helping others. He was survived by his parents Manuel Trujillo and Victoria Garcia, two sisters, a brother, his fiancée Tessa Rodriguez, and three stepdaughters.

The man identified as the shooter was 30-year-old Ian Michael Downs of Littlefield, Texas. Downs was initially charged with Aggravated Battery; after Trujillo died the charge was upgraded to Murder. Investigators collected doorbell and other security camera footage and reconstructed the sequence of events from multiple videos. The Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s Office concluded the footage corroborated Downs’s account and determined his actions were justifiable self-defense, and the charges were dismissed.

Are there readers who knew Oscar or who have information about the events that night?
