Ashley Rose Shumaker, 37, was found dead at her Minerva-area home at 16455 Coldale St. NE in Paris Township, Stark County, on the night of August 25, 2024. Emergency services were called at 10:29 p.m.; the Stark County Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at 1:12 a.m. on August 26. Investigators report she died of a single gunshot wound and are treating the death as a homicide.

Sheriff George T. Maier said the shooting followed a domestic dispute. The suspect has been identified as Christopher W. Short, alleged to have shot Shumaker once during a violent encounter. No information about an arrest or the suspect’s current status was provided.

Ashley was born June 11, 1987, to Richard Shumaker and was remembered in an obituary that mentioned she had gained her angel wings and went to be with the Lord. The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
