Kiara Nelson was an 18-year-old White woman from Dublin, Ohio, remembered as outgoing, caring, and bubbly. A protective sister and aunt who worked as a waitress, she hoped to become a nurse. In the early morning hours of June 22, 2024, Columbus police were called to the Karric Place of Dublin apartments on O’Shweeney Lane at 12:22 a.m. for a reported shooting. Inside one apartment they found Kiara with a gunshot wound after she tried to intervene in a domestic dispute between two other people.
Medics transported Kiara to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition; she was pronounced dead at 1:51 a.m. The usually quiet, tight-knit community was left in shock. Days later police identified and arrested a suspect, 22-year-old Mika Lee Cannon, who was charged with murder and was seen leaving the apartment hurriedly after the shooting; his first court appearance was June 25, 2024, and a judge set bond at $2 million.
If anyone knew Kiara or was in that apartment complex the night of June 22, did you see anything that could help investigators?
