Joseph Burley Edwards, 48, of New Carlisle, Ohio, was shot and later died after a confrontation outside a home in Park Layne on March 24, 2024. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office says the incident began around 9:20 PM when Glen James Sexton, 24, and a female passenger arrived at a Slayton Drive residence to meet Edwards. After a brief interaction Edwards exited the vehicle, returned to the house, and then was confronted by Sexton outside.
According to the sheriff’s account, Edwards struck Sexton in the face, Sexton retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fired, fatally wounding Edwards. Edwards was taken to a local hospital and died about an hour later. Deputies found Sexton sitting in his vehicle with his hands raised and arrested him at the scene; he was charged with murder and held at the Clark County Jail. Investigators also found 45-year-old Douglas Davadis Searcy II hiding nearby and arrested him on an unrelated felony drug warrant; Searcy is not connected to the homicide.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather evidence and details. If anyone witnessed the confrontation on Slayton Drive or has information about the events that night, please contact the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
