On January 3, 2024, at about 7:30 p.m., Maple Heights police responded to reports of gunfire near North Boulevard and Cato Street. Officers found a vehicle had crashed into a home at the intersection and, next to the driver’s side door, 32-year-old Christopher David Jones suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died of those injuries.

Investigators say the incident appears to have started as a road rage altercation involving at least one other vehicle; witnesses described aggressive driving between the cars before the shooting and crash. No arrests have been announced and authorities have not released suspect information. Born January 31, 1991, Jones lived in Maple Heights. Funeral services were held at Gaines Funeral Home with public viewing and a celebration of life in mid-January.

The Maple Heights Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact their detective bureau at (216) 587-9624 or [email protected]. If anyone knew Christopher or saw the confrontation that night, can you share what you remember?
