On July 17, 2023, at about 3:58 a.m., Canton police were called to 423 Gobel Avenue NE for a reported shooting. Officers found 32-year-old Kody M. Ingram with a gunshot wound; he was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital and pronounced dead at 4:43 a.m. The Stark County Coroner’s Office confirmed the cause of death was the gunshot wound.

A 911 caller identified as Ingram’s fiancée reported he had threatened her and her three children with a gun and said he would kill them. According to that account, she shot him in what has been described as an act of self-defense. Canton police are investigating and, as of the latest report, no charges have been filed against the fiancée while authorities review the evidence.
