Matthew Douglas Lambert, 30, of Geneva, Ohio, was shot and killed on the evening of July 9, 2023, after a dispute over a pizza delivery driver allegedly speeding on a residential street. The altercation occurred near East Tibbitts and Sherman Streets and, during the confrontation, the driver fired a single shot that fatally wounded Lambert. He is described as a father of three who enjoyed soccer, fishing, camping, and music and had lived with his companion of more than ten years, Amanda Nicole Beemiller.
The Geneva Police Department investigated and the matter went to an Ashtabula County grand jury. In August 2023 the grand jury declined to indict the delivery driver, finding he acted in self-defense; the county prosecutor said she agreed with that decision. The grand jury did indict Matthew’s father, Taz Douglas Lambert, on an aggravated menacing charge; that case was later resolved when Taz Lambert pleaded guilty in August 2024 to a reduced third-degree misdemeanor negligent assault charge.
Matthew’s companion, Amanda Beemiller, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of his estate against the delivery driver and the Pizza Hut operator he worked for, alleging negligent conduct and an unjustified shooting; the defendants deny wrongdoing and a jury trial is set for June 2027. Have readers with knowledge of the July 9, 2023 incident or of Matthew’s life in Geneva come forward with information?
