Anika Lea Coleman, 33, was fatally shot on June 16, 2023, in the backyard of a Ridgewood Avenue residence in Lakewood, Ohio. Witnesses said she had a verbal altercation with people at the home before the shooting. Coleman suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead after being taken to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Officers detained three people at the scene and recovered two handguns, but all three were released without charges while investigators worked to determine who fired the fatal shot. Two days later, on June 18, 30-year-old Robert Alvord-Nicolino, identified as Coleman’s partner, died by suicide at the same Ridgewood Avenue residence. Lakewood Police Captain Gary Stone stated Alvord-Nicolino was not responsible for Coleman’s death and that a neighbor shot Coleman after she allegedly pointed a gun at him. No charges had been filed as the prosecutor’s office reviewed the case.
