Chad Everett Fitzer, 48, of Ashtabula, Ohio, was reported missing on April 5, 2023. On April 14, his body was located in a residence on Harbor Avenue, concealed in a crawl space at the rear of the house. Investigators determined he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

A resident of the same Harbor Avenue address, 53-year-old Laura Regina White, was arrested and charged with multiple felonies including aggravated murder with a firearm specification, murder with a firearm specification, felonious assault with a handgun, tampering with evidence, and gross abuse of a corpse. In October 2023 a court found White not competent to stand trial but restorable, and she was ordered to receive treatment at a state mental hospital pending a later competency evaluation. The case remains pending while restoration and further proceedings continue.
