A welfare check on November 13, 2023, led deputies to the Lake Forest home of 68-year-old Davido Koep and his wife Karen, where investigators found large amounts of blood, a strong smell of bleach and signs someone had tried to clean the scene. Authorities said the volume of blood was unsurvivable and declared the couple missing under suspicious circumstances.
Attention soon turned to a 45-year-old tenant, Timothy Burke, who rented space on the Koeps’ property and whom friends said Davido was evicting. The couple’s car was found abandoned in Lacey; investigators reported blood in both that vehicle and one belonging to Burke, and shell casings from a .45-caliber weapon linked to Burke were reportedly found inside the Koeps’ home. Neighbors recalled hearing gunshots the evening of November 10.
Burke was arrested November 17 and charged with first-degree murder and kidnapping. On December 2, two bodies were found on Joint Base Lewis-McChord land near the couple’s home and were later identified by the Thurston County Coroner as Davido and Karen Koep; the coroner determined both died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso.
If anyone knew Davido or Karen, or saw suspicious activity near their Lake Forest home or on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in November 2023, please share what was seen with investigators.
