Tyair Maurice Stump, 26, of Renton, Washington, was shot and killed outside the Newcastle Library on Newcastle Way Southeast in the early morning of October 30, 2023. Deputies responding to multiple 911 calls about gunshots found Stump on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest; first responders provided aid but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 23-year-old woman, Bryanna Bernandez, was at the scene and told officers she had shot her boyfriend after he assaulted her. Investigators recovered two firearms at the scene — one in Bernandez’s purse and another in her vehicle — and five fired 9mm casings. Surveillance footage and court documents show a physical confrontation inside Bernandez’s vehicle; footage depicts Stump exiting the vehicle, Bernandez firing two shots at him, and then firing three more as he fell and tried to run. Bernandez left and returned about 10 minutes later as police arrived.

A judge found probable cause to charge Bernandez with first degree murder, with prosecutors alleging the shooting was premeditated. Does anyone have information about Stump’s movements that night or about witnesses near the library?
