On the evening of August 5, 2023, Daniel Bueno, a 36-year-old Hispanic father of two, was shot and killed after a verbal dispute inside a residence on the 2600 block of Sixth Avenue in Kennewick, Washington. The argument moved outside and continued for about ten minutes before Bueno got into his Dodge pickup; security camera footage shows Katelynn Vinson, 25 and also known as Trigger, following him and approaching the open passenger window. A single gunshot struck Bueno under the arm; audio captured him saying he was hit in the lungs and Vinson telling him to go to the hospital. Friends on scene called 911 around 9:45 p.m. and Bueno was taken to Trios Southridge Hospital, where he later died.

Investigators collected evidence from the truck, including DNA from the window frame, and identified Vinson as the primary suspect. She was not immediately located after the shooting; at one point she reportedly told an informant the incident was an accident and that she did not mean for it to happen. The family remembered Bueno as an amazing person who was always ready to help those in need.
