On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, Tyrann Burks Williams, a 35-year-old Black man, was found dead at a residence near the intersection of West Park Avenue and North Hickory Street in McAlester, Oklahoma. Police responded after a call about possible gunshots; investigators determined Williams had been fatally shot and opened a homicide investigation.

The McAlester Police Department asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to take the lead. Authorities arrested a 19-year-old from McAlester, Jonathan Riggins, who was booked into the Pittsburg County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder. Motive and the full sequence of events that led to Williams’s death remain under investigation.
