Cordae Carter was 16 and a student from Midwest City when he was shot and killed during a high school football game at Choctaw High School in August 2023. The shooting occurred in the third quarter after an argument escalated into gunfire; players and spectators fled in chaos. Two other people were wounded: a 15-year-old girl shot in the thigh and a 42-year-old man shot in the chest by an off-duty Del City police officer who was working security and said he perceived a threat. At least two girls also suffered broken bones while trying to escape.
A 15-year-old male suspect was arrested days after the shooting and charged with first-degree murder based on an eyewitness identification. In January 2024 the Oklahoma County District Attorney dropped that murder charge after the sole eyewitness recanted; the dismissal was without prejudice and authorities said the investigation remains open. What information do readers have that could help identify who fired the fatal shot?
