Elijah D. Dodson, 22, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023, in downtown Appleton, Wisconsin. The shooting occurred around 2:00 a.m. in the 100 block of South Walnut Street after a dispute in a food truck line reportedly began over someone cutting in line and escalated into a physical altercation. First responders found Dodson with a gunshot wound and he later died at a local hospital.
Authorities identified a suspect weeks after the shooting. Elliot Campbell, 21, of Racine, was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide; prosecutors allege he was the person who shot Dodson and witnesses at the scene reportedly identified Campbell as the shooter. Campbell was held at the Outagamie County Jail on a $1 million cash bond and has pleaded not guilty. The Appleton Police Department increased downtown patrols after the incident.
If anyone was in the area that night or has information about the altercation near the food truck, please share what was seen or heard with investigators.
