On the night of November 2, 2024, 14-year-old Jai’den Alexander Winchester was found with a gunshot wound to the head on the 200 block of Center Deen Avenue in Aberdeen, Maryland, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Jai’den was a ninth-grader at Havre de Grace High School and a junior varsity football player.
Investigators say the shooting followed a Halloween party that had been shut down. Jai’den and a 16-year-old classmate and teammate, Kevin Cortez Kinsey Jr., were in a car with four others when an argument escalated. Charging documents allege Kinsey told Winchester he would shoot him shortly before a gunshot was fired. Kinsey fled, then returned and said he did not mean to shoot him and sought the firearm; the recovered gun was registered to Kinsey’s father. Kinsey was arrested and charged as an adult with first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and multiple firearms offenses and is being held without bond.
What details about that night or the people involved might help explain how a dispute between classmates turned deadly?
