A late-night crash turned deadly in Morningside, Maryland, when a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Suitland Road and Randolph Road on October 26, 2024, was followed by gunfire that killed 38-year-old Joseph Holtz of Suitland. Officers from Morningside and Prince George’s County found the collision and shooting around 12:50 a.m.; Holtz was taken to a nearby hospital and later died. Investigators say the shooting happened after the initial crash and that two firearms were recovered at the scene.

Authorities have identified the people involved in the crash and shooting, but as of this account no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office involved. Holtz, known as Joey or Rozay, was a father of two whose family describes him as outgoing and protective; they have launched a fundraiser to support his sons and honor his wishes for a service.

What details about the timeline or interactions after the collision might help explain how the crash escalated into gunfire?
